Food is inherent to our identity—our ethnicities, our genders, and our names—and how you and I perceive the world. Yet, I’ve noticed that our introductions often follow a singular, rigid structure. “Hello my name is Jess and I’m from San Francisco”.
Can you imagine a world where people introduced themselves with memories of food, cooking, or even creative learning? What if we contemplated our identities through the lens of food, thereby opening ourselves up to a deeper exploration of our culture and past memories: “Hello my name is Jess and I ate mantou (Chinese bread) for breakfast because it reminded me of my parents and younger sister back home.”
